The Roots are probably one of the most all-over-the-map bands out there right now, and I don’t mean that figuratively. Lately, things seem kinda “another night, another Roots concert” because Illadelph’s favorites are currently one of the most well-travelled and hardworking bands out there: not only are they almost constantly performing, but their back-to-back shows often take place entirely different ends of the world. Since How I Got Over and Wake Up! are thus far taking the cake for the most important political and social hip-hop albums of 2010 though, I don’t think anyone is having a problem overlooking their Godzilla sized carbon footprints in favor of getting their messages out there and heard.
Along with Ozzy Osbourne, Cat Stevens/Yuseph, Sheryl Crow. Kid Rock, the O’Jays and others, The Roots were the ideal musical guests-and of course official backing band–for Saturday Oct 30th’s Rally at the National Mall in Washington D.C. If you haven’t seen (or worse, heard of) The Rally For Sanity and/or Fear, a joint nationwide project of Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert, then you should check out some clips at The Daily Show website to get a wider concept of the event, or click here to watch Stewart’s speech.
