[Photos x Mixtape] Scratch – Beatbox Expert Vol. 1

If you’ve seen our interview with Scratch of The Roots, you may already know a thing or two about beatboxing’s role in hip-hop and particularly Scratch’s contribution to it. This mixtape, Beatbox Expert Vol. 1, comes to us after the self-proclaimed expert’s recent album Loss 4 Words (with features from Kanye West, Talib Kweli and others) and of course a mountain of tracks that span The Roots’s discography.

The tape can be listened to front to back, but it is maybe most useful to think of it as a dog’s breakfast for DJ’s and remix artists, full of hooks and interesting sounds, all of which of course have origins from the bouche. Click below to see a bunch more of the neat photos from Thom Payson of Total Productions Photography, and to see a couple clips of the soundcheck from Scratch’s drop through Rap City.
