What an interesting match up. I woke up to a gem and what is sure to be a classic move in an unforgettable hip hop beef between two greats, Common and Drake. The origins of the beef are debated, as usual. Some say it all started when Common threw a couple of subtle jabs at “singin’ ass rappers” on his track “Sweet” off his The Dreamer/The Believer album. Other say Common’s catching feelings due to Drizzy smashin’ his (ex)girl Serena Williams. Word on road is after Serena broke it off with Common, she was seen in countless public places with Drizzy, and after a video of her dancing in her thong at Drake’s Miami condo, Common went in on “Sweet”. After being asked about it, Common said its directed at “Whoever the shoe fits.” And everyone thought the shoe fit Drizzy pretty well. Drake decided to take a few subtle jabs at Common on his “Stay Schemin” verse. He also spoke out about the issue at a recent Las Vegas show.
“I might sing, but I ain’t no bitch. If Common got something to say, say it to my face.”
And say it to his face he did. On record, that is. Common dropped his own remix to Rozay’s “Stay Schemin” and added a diss verse bluntly directed at Drake. Homie even called him out. Peep the joint for yourself. Regardless of whose side you’re on, I think it’s just exciting to see high profile beef like this in rap music because at the end of the day, beef is a crucial pillar of hip hop.
Check this out while we anticipate Drizzy’s next move.
