Shot by Drew: Drake (The Come Up Show)

Update: Thanks to everyone who peeped this last and give us their thoughts. Looking back on the list we got 5/10 right with The Weeknd, J.Cole, Lil Wayne, French Montana, and 2 Chainz who according to Karla Moy aka Hustlegrl, was scheduled to perform and PARTYNEXTDOOR but couldn’t perform due to unforeseen circumstances. I don’t think anyone could have guessed Diddy, Mase and Kanye West coming out check out the videos right here.

The 4th annual OVO festival is fast approaching and will be held on Caribana weekend in Toronto on Monday August 5. Hosted by Drake, the concert is notorious for the special guests Drizzy brings to his hometown. Since it’s launch on August 2, 2010 artists have included Rick Ross, Bun B, Young Jeezy, Fabolous, Kardinal Offishall, Eminem, Jay Z, The Weeknd, Nas, J. Cole, Lil Wayne Stevie Wonder, 2 Chainz, ASAP Rocky, French Montana, Waka Flocka Flame, Meek Mill, Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj. Drake said at last year’s show, “Every year, I feel like this is my motherfucking birthday.” That’s why you can expect A-list celebrities to surprise us as Drake calls in his favours to show how much he loves his hometown. Since people are always wondering who the special guests are each year, we’ve decided to compile our own predictions for this year’s OVO Fest.

1. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Macklemore- The Heist Tour Toronto Nov 28

This Friday August 2nd will be Macklemore’s and Ryan Lewis’ third visit to Toronto. Presented by Union Events and Live Nation, the show has been sold out for a few weeks now. As for the weekend, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are heading to the Osheaga Festival in Montreal to perform. Monday is a wide open day and Tuesday they head to Saskatoon, Canada. If you remember last year, Snoop Dogg had a similar schedule as he headlined Osheaga and was one of the surprise guests at OVO. Since Macklemore and Ryan Lewis don’t have any scheduled shows on the Monday and they’re still in Canada, it’s a safe bet you can see them at this year’s OVO Festival.

2. Kendrick Lamar

Currently on the road for his “good kid, m.A.A.d. city” World Tour, K. Dot will be making his way to Toronto’s Sound Academy on August 2, 2013. The Compton, California rapper has tracks entitled, “F***in Problems” and “Poetic Justice” featuring Drake. Also in Montreal on August 4th for the Osheaga Music Festival with no shows listed on the 5th, I think it’s safe to say we’ll see Kendrick at OVO this year.

3.  J.Cole

J.Cole Cole World Tour in London Music Hall

When 5000+ fans showed up at a secret location for J. Cole’s “Dollar & A Dream Tour” and only 500 were granted access; many people were left disappointed. There’s a good chance that Jermaine will be a special guest this year as he will be hosting the HOT 97/BET Party on Sunday at the Guvernment Nightclub in Toronto. Considering how much love Drake has consistently shown throughout J. Cole’s career from buying out Born Sinner at a local N.Y. store to chartering a private plane last minute, it’s a safe bet that you will most likely see Cole at OVO.

4. Lil Wayne

If you were at last years concert you might remember Drake mentioning that he really wanted Lil Wayne to be a part of the show but he was unable to attend. Instead, he gave us Nicki Minaj in whom the ladies went crazy over. Currently Lil Wayne is on the “America’s Most Wanted Tour” featuring T.I., French Montana & 2 Chainz. However, there is no date scheduled for August 5th which could see the four rappers make their way to OVO Fest.

5. French Montana

I’m pretty sure he has been at almost every OVO Festival as a special guest at LEAST the past two years and we believe this year won’t be any different. Montana released Excuse my French back in May and is also in town for Caribana weekend for an event Sunday with Tony Matterhorn.

6. The Weeknd

The Weeknd Live in Concert in London, Ontario

We’ve all heard the rumours from last year surrounding the relationship between the Weeknd and Drizzy; claiming the two had beef and might not be working together anymore. That rumour was squashed when a photo surfaced on the internet earlier this week where we saw the two in studio together. As the Weeknd prepares to release his new album Kiss Land on September 10th; a week before Drake’s album, Nothing Was The Same, OVOXO fans would love to see them together again. After all, the two artists do make great music together.

7. Future

Providing numerous hooks on many successful rap singles, Future will be joining Drake for the “Would You Like A Tour” tour which kicks off September 25, 2013 in Portland. Let’s not forget Future’s biggest singles have included songs such as “Tony Montana”, “Fo Real” and “Love Me”. Imagine how crazy things would be if these two came together on stage this Monday? We’ll have wait and see.

8. 2 Chainz

2 Chainz at the Paramount Theatre

Drizzy just came out to his concert with Lil Wayne and T.I. in Buffalo and they just released All Me featuring Big Sean. 2 Chainz also headlined last years OVO Festival. With songs like No Lie and now All Me it’s safe to say 2 Chainz will make his way with Lil Wayne to OVO Festival.

9. Ace Hood

Ace Hood will also be present at the HOT 97/BET Party on Sunday August 4th, 2013 at the Guvernment Nightclub. Ace Hood’s certified Gold single, “Bugatti” features Future and Rick Ross as well. Having just released his new album Trials and Tribulations and the fact he is signed to We The Best Music/Cash Money Records, it would only be right if Drizzy let him bless the stage.

10. Juicy J

2050 Tour in London, Ontario

Juicy J will also be in Toronto for the HOT 97/BET Party on Sunday August 4th, 2013 at the Guvernment Nightclub with Ace Hood. Over the past couple of years, Juicy J has performed in Toronto so many times we lost count. He’s also had tons of hits that clubs/strip clubs love. Expect Juicy J to come out and perform Bandz A Make Her Dance!

Honorable Mentions:

Lebron James

Drake .&&. LeBron James

Now we all know Lebron James isn’t a musician but he will also be in town for Caribana weekend. Seeing that he is an NBA champion and MVP it wouldn’t be out of the question for Lebron to come on stage, wilding out and getting the crowd hype. We all remember that hilarious video of Drake trying to sneak into the Miami Heat locker room when they won game 7. Except this time Drake gets to play the cool cat and show LBJ some Toronto love.

Rick Ross

Rick Ross @ Sound Academy in Toronto
Rick Ross is no stranger to OVO Fest and is a frequent collaborator of Drizzy as well. The two emcees have accounted for many hits over the years including the 2013 smash “No New Friends.” Will Rozay make an appearance at this years 4th Annual OVO Fest? We think so.

PARTYNEXTDOOR

Signed to Drake’s OVO Sound label, PARTYNEXTDOOR has created a lot of buzz, recently dropping his debut project of the same name. Featuring only Drake on “Over Here,” PARTYNEXTDOOR could possibly be a special guest.

CONFIRMED PERFORMERS:

James Blake

James Blake

Initially scheduled to perform on the first day of OVO Fest, English singer/songwriter and producer James Blake was re-scheduled to perform on August 5th instead. This was in part due to Frank Ocean’s Injury in which he tore a vocal Cord, causing the singer to cancel the remainder of his Austrlian tour. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what James Blake brings to the table.

Wale

Wale at JLC

After the announcement that Frank Ocean had torn a vocal cord and the first day of OVO was cancelled, many fans wondered what was going to happen. Not long after, Drake took to his Twitter and announced that Wale will be joining him at this years OVO Fest as well.

Please note: These are only our predictions for OVO Fest 2013 as we don’t have any inside information, so take this list as is. With that being said, let us know what YOU think in the comment section below. Have we missed anyone? Who would you like to see on stage at the festival?
