[Mixtape] Horseshoe G.A.N.G. – “Mixtape Monthly Vol. 1”

Demetrius Capone, Julius Laciano, Kenny Siegal and Andrew Dinero by themselves might not be recognizable names, but together the four men go under the alias the Horseshoe G.A.N.G. If you are unaware of the Horseshoe G.A.N.G., they are made up of four biological brothers from Long Beach, California. Oh, as well they are all blood brothers to Slaughterhouse’s own Crooked I.

On the 21st of November, the Horseshoe G.A.N.G. released their Mixtape Monthly Vol. 1 project. While listening to the tracks off this tape, I couldn’t help but realize how similar the four brothers sounded to Crooked I. Crooked I was the first person in the family to make it in the music business, so he most likely helped the Horseshoe G.A.N.G. in finding their own style and flow.

As for the tape itself, it was an entertaining listen. One thing that these four emcees can do really well is double-time rapping. This is evident right off the bat on the first track “Small-Pacs”, where each member had the chance to step up to the microphone and show off their lyrical speed over a slower paced, piano and violin looped beat. Most of the tracks on this tape showcase the brothers’ ability to set the microphone on fire with their lightning fast lyrics, such as the songs “Back To Tha Flow” and “Silent Killa”.

The Horseshoe G.A.N.G. switch from their hard body, gangster selves for a few tracks throughout this tape to send their love to the ladies of course. There are a couple of tracks such as “Lord, Lord, Lord”, “Green Light”, “Climb On My Pole” and “Hit A N***a Back” that are focused towards the female demographic. In these songs, the Horseshoe G.A.N.G. rap about their best pick up lines or metaphors about making love, while at the same time managing to maintain their hard personas.

There are a few productions that are familiar on this tape, such as J. Cole’s “Rich N***az” beat on the track “Life Is My Ghostwriter” and the G.A.N.G. also go over Lil’ Wayne’s “Rich As F**k” beat with their song “B**ch Don’t Get Pissed On”.

There is something about rappers who can spit double-time that really sparks my interest and keeps me listening intently. If you enjoy fast paced lyricism and intricate wordplay as much as I do, be sure to check out Mixtape Monthly Vol. 1 by the Horseshoe G.A.N.G.
