[Feature] Events You Don’t Want To Miss (March 2014)

Although February was a short month, it featured many great acts including Pusha T, Kanye West, Troy Ave, Isaiah Rashad, and many more. It may still be cold out however, things will begin to heat up as more artists are slated to perform in March. As promised, we’re back with another edition of our article on Events You Don’t Want To Miss (March 2014).

1. A Tribe Called Red “Turtle Island” Tour
(Friday, March 7, 2014 @ The Hoxton, Toronto)

A Tribe Called Red is continuing their Turtle Island Tour and stopping in Toronto on March 7th, at The Hoxton. The Ottawa DJ trio – SHUB, Bear Witness and NDN – is bound to put on a great show so don’t wait to get your tickets.

Why you should go: The unique mixing of traditional pow wow vocals and drumming with cutting-edge electronic music is ATCR’s specialty, and are very talented beyond this style. They are impacting the global electronic scene and urban club culture, showcasing aboriginal culture through a wild party. They are always drawing new fans, so why not be one of them?

2. Skratch Bastid & Ali Shaheed Muhammad

DJ/Producer, Ali Shaheed Muhammad is known worldwide as one-third of the legendary hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest. Ali will be joined by Canadian DJ and Juno nominated record producer, Skratch Bastid, who is also a three-time Scribble Jam champion and Red Bull Thre3style ambassador.

Why you should go: This will be an incredible night of legendary hip-hop as host, Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest is joined by Toronto based DJ, Skratch Bastid as they take over Tattoo in Toronto on March 7, 2014.

3. G-Eazy “These Things Happen” Tour
(Thursday, March 20, 2014 @ The Virgin Mobile Mob Club, Toronto)

American rapper, songwriter and producer, G-Eazy is currently on the road as part of his “These Things Happen” Tour. The Okaland, California native will join forces with MMG’s Rockie Fresh who has been named the opening act along with Toronto rapper Tory Lanez and California native Kyle.

Why you should go: Not only will you get to witness G-Eazy live in concert, Rockie Fresh, Kyle and Toronto native Tory Lanez are sure to put on an exciting show with a diverse range of hip-hop music coming from each artist.

4. Childish Gambino “Deep Web” Tour
(Monday, March 24, 25 2014 @ Sound Academy, Toronto)

More than a triple threat; rapper, actor, comedian, and writer Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino will be making his way across North America for his 2014 ‘Deep Web’ tour. The tour will make its way to Toronto on March 24-25, 2014 . His second studio album ‘Because the Internet’ exhibited his originality and creativity and growth in the hip hop world making this one show you don’t want to miss.

Why you should go: If you’ve never been to a Childish Gambino concert it is definitely one you should add to your bucket list. Don’t believe us, just ask anyone that had attended his show at Echo Beach in 2012 or one of the hundreds of people that purchased tickets to his upcoming sold out shows. With all the lights and visuals that he provided exclusively on his previous tour we expect nothing less from Gambino as he he gets set to takeover Toronto again on March 24-25 at the Sound Academy.

5. Redman
(Friday, March 28, 2014 @ The Rockpile East, Toronto)

MC, rapper, DJ, record producer and actor, Redman gained notoriety in the 1990s as an artist signed to the Def Jam label. He is well known for his work with Method Man, including their roles in films such as How How and How High 2, as well as sitcoms. Redman is also one-half of the Hip-Hop duo Method Man & Redman and will make his way to The Rockpile East in Toronto.

Why you should go: Another legend in Hip-Hop, Redman’s legacy spans over 20 years with countless hits and energy that is sure to keep fans on their feet. Don’t miss your chance to see him live.

6. The Consignment Show Presents: Smashmouth Mentality Showcase
March 29th @ The APK (London, ON)

CHRW’s The Consignment Show will present the Smashmouth Mentality Showcase consisting of performances from artists including The Antiheroes, Richie Blackz, Dillanponders, Jimmy B, SeT, Haviah Mighty, Jay Downz, EGAA, and The Bass6. Music will be provided by DJ Doublebown.

Why you should go: Several talented artists will be making their way to London, ON APK as part of a live performance and showcase. Make sure to come out and support the extensive talent that will be taking the stage that evening.
