Egos And Expectations is a collection of stories and sounds created in our childhood friend’s basement in Scarborough. Story-wise, we drew from our real life experiences balancing our love in relationship with others, as well as this music industry, but more importantly our love for ourselves. Toronto is known as a melting pot for many cultures, so we wanted to be as diverse and use as many colours as possible with our soundscape. We take pride in collecting sounds during our travels. Some of the drums give off that tribal feel – African inspired, while some of the synths on this record derive from video game sounds from arcades we went to in Japan. The melodies are stenciled by 90’s Pop/R&B, the bass lines bounce with the funk and grooves we grew up on, and of course the storytelling takes the driver seat with smooth, rhythmic wordplay. We wanted to be ambitious with our approach, and that crafted this raw rebellious sound. Thank you for your love, support, and patience.
