[Event] The 8th Annual Manifesto Festival Sep 17-21 (Toronto)

Manifesto Community Projects announces the launch of its 8th Annual Manifesto Festival of Community and Culture

Toronto, ON (September 04, 2014) – On September 17th, Manifesto Community Projects will launch its 8th annual Manifesto Festival of Community and Culture, a youthful and diverse showcase of art, dance, music, fashion, educational workshops, film and hip hop culture. The official launch of the festival will be preceded by the TIFF x Manifesto initiative starting on September 4th, a combined effort by TIFF and Manifesto to bring film to youth in all corners of the city.

This year’s festival will see the return of Live at the Square, a free all-day hip hop showcase headlined by Grammy nominee Ryan Leslie, Nas’ first record label signee, 18-year old Bishop Nehru and the genre-less Atlanta upstart, Raury. Legendary L.A.-based tattoo icon Mister Cartoon will showcase his talents at the Transcension Art Exhibit and will help close the festival as a speaker at the Manifesto 2014 Summit. The festival promises to kick-off the fall season in style with a full slate of must-see events.

Ryan Leslie (NYC)

Regarded as one of our industries most savvy businessmen – a graduate of Harvard at 19 years old in Government: Political Science and Macroeconomics – Ryan Leslie is a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist under his self-run NextSelection Lifestyle Group. He’s produced hit records for the likes of Cassie, Fabolous, Tha Dogg Pound, and more. RL’s most recent venture is Disruptive Multimedia, an application that allows artists to keep in direct contact with their fans via email and SMS, with album sales made directly through the application to the artist, with no middle-man or label taking a cut from the gross album sales.

Mister Cartoon (Los Angeles)

This Los Angeles legend known worldwide for his tattoo work, illustration, and lowriders will join us following his headline appearance at our art show. Cartoon will discuss his extensive tattoo work on some of the biggest names in hip hop, his lifetime mastering his craft, and how he’s utilized his art and learning to benefit young people in his community.
