The Toronto native Tory Lanez hits us with an unlikely collaboration with the U.K. producer duo Snakehips. This effort is brought to us from “Yours Truly” and “Adidas Originals” recent venture entitled “Songs from Scratch”, an original series that documents & delivers new songs from artists whom drip with passion. Some other noteworthy collabs from “Songs from Scratch” would be: Chance the Rapper X Nosaj Thing, Joey Bada$$ X Chuck Strangers, & Danny Brown X AraabMuzik.
As the track begins, you immediately hear a loop from Snakehips duo James & Ollie in the form of a violin riff, before they bring in a new dimension in the form of drums and a dose of lively bass. Before long, your ears are graced with Tory Lanez’ signature sound, slick R&B infused hip-hop, before he transitions to a smooth & elegant chorus. As far as the message goes, “Dímelo” strives to be a success driven track, as an ode to out performing the competition, and basking in the benefits that come with it.
Snakehips has been busy with their tour which is slated to hit Toronto on June 26th, but didn’t let that stop them from dropping a remix of Kehlani‘s “Till the Morning” just yesterday. With Tory Lanez priding himself on staying distant from conventional R&B and hip-hop, his latest effort “Lost Cause” sports productions from the likes of RL Grime, and fellow Canadian Ryan Hemsworth. Keep an eye out for Tory Lanez who’s currently working on an EP with the Wedidit crew dropping this April, and if you’re feeling his sound, be sure to catch his performance this summer at Toronto’s TIME Festival alongside acts such as: Alison Wonderland, & Die Antwoord.
