Chris McClenney hits us with an official remix for GoldLinks “Sober Thoughts“, originally produced by the one and only Kaytranada . Releasing this track through HW&W records, Chris McClenney of the Soulection crew transforms GoldLink’s otherwise relaxing tune and gives it a dance spin that would have even the toughest dude in the club tapping his foot.
Chris’ “Sober Thoughts” remix starts off easy with just a couple welcomed additions to the song while GoldLink does his thing over the beat. As the song continues Chris steps up the production right around the time the first chorus drops which is when you realize that you’ve been bopping your head to this the whole time. A very well polished remix to say the least, especially when the saxophone is introduced in the later half of the track. Taking an otherwise chill song and spinning it into a dance record is no easy feat, but Chris handles it quite well, making the mass appeal of this song a little bit stronger.
GoldLink is just coming off of the heels of announcing a creative collaboration with legendary Rick Rubin, who’s worked with the likes of Kanye West, and Eminem. Next up for GoldLink is his first headlining tour in the U.S., and is going down all summer, which includes his performance for Michigan’s annual Electric Forest Festival.
Would you rather dance to Chris’ remix, or vibe to the original? The beautiful part is you really don’t have to make a choice when you have both at your disposal. If your feeling GoldLink, make sure to hit up his show in Toronto tomorrow (May 2nd), as part of Canadian Music Week, and check out our feature for CMW, including GoldLink’s show here.
