The devilishly skilled artist Hopsin of the Funk Volume collective is back with a new track & visual “Crown Me“, the lead single from his upcoming album release “Pound Syndrome“. Hop is on his braggadocio tip on this one, while focusing on his high speed wordplay in this hot new single where he demands the crown.
Hopsin has been in the game for quite some time, starting out as an artist signed to Ruthless Records before splitting from the company due to a lack of financial compensation, artist support, and promotion, among other reasons, and soon after founded his own independent label Funk Volume. Funk Volume has since enjoyed much success, boasting other artists such as: SwizZz, Dizzy Wright, Jarren Benton, & DJ Hoppa. Along with dropping his “Knock Madness” album, Hop was also featured on the 2012 XXL Freshmen List along with Machine Gun Kelly, Kid Ink, Macklemore, & Danny Brown, among others.
“Crown Me” shows Hopsin displaying the rap skills that he believes has earned him the crown. Hop comes in red hot with a fast paced verse that works to catch any listeners attention. Before long the chorus drops and evokes the energy that Hop tracks often emit. The rest of the track enjoys Hop bringing the heat while demanding the crown. The energy in this one is undeniable. As far as the visuals go, they display Hop and some of his Funk Volume crew running through the city, subway cars, and anywhere else they can get their hands on, while various visual edits tie the video together.
Hopsin’s new album “Pound Syndrome” is slated for a July 24th, 2015 release date, so it’s probably safe to say we’ll hear one or two more singles before the release. Until then, I have no problem bumping “Crown Me”, as Hop’s first release in sometime has us snapping our necks. Does Hop deserve royalty? Let us know in the comments.
