Fast rising Def Jam signee Vince Staples, releases his second single off his ambitious debut studio double album “Get Paid”. Growing up in Long Beach, California Staples was exposed to daily gang violence and witnessed the tragic consequences that lifestyle leads to. With a mindset to be a voice for the voiceless, his appearances on projects by Odd Future and his collaboration mixtape Stolen Youth with Mac Miller provided the young rapper with a platform to gain recognition and to succeed.
Already achieving critical acclaim for the Shyne Coldchain series and the Hell Can Wait EP, Vince Staples debut album Summertime ’06 is garnering high expectations. However, with No I.D as executive producer and possible features from Earl Sweatshirt, ScHoolboy Q, and Mac Miller the hype may be real.
If those names aren’t convincing enough, Vince has released two solid singles “Senorita” featuring Future and his most recent “Get Paid”to back it up. Thriving on well refined and pristine trap productions, “Get Paid” displays Vince in his element.
Produced by NO I.D, the instrumental is driven by an arpeggiated loop with uptempo claps and drum kicks. Rapping about his humble beginnings and using knowledge passed down by the “OGs”, Vince Staples is expressing what it takes to get paid and strive for a better life.
A common theme in most of his music, Vince is very dedicated to helping the kids in the tougher neighbourhoods to stray away from getting involved in gangs or criminal activities and realize their potential and pursue what they love.
Summertime ’06 is set to be released June 30th.
