The most highly anticipated concert of the summer, the 6ixth annual OVO Fest returns to the Molson Amphitheatre on August 2nd and 3rd 2015. Each year, tickets for the event sell out within minutes of hitting the web. People travel thousands of miles just to see the boy. Drake has brought out some big names as surprise performers over the last few OVO fests. From G-Unit to Kanye West it seems like no one is off limits. With past years surprise lineups already featuring some of the biggest celebrities, we can only imagine what this year’s OVO Fest will bring Toronto. We present to you, The Come Up Show’s predictions for OVO Fest 2015.
Drake signed the Majid Jordan duo to his OVO sound label in 2014. They currently feature on a track together titled “My Love”. Drake is known for using OVO Fest to give a platform to his newly cosigned artists. For example, he brought The Weeknd out for his first major show at 2011’s gig. It only makes sense that Majid Jordan takes the stage that night.
Toronto rapper RamRiddlz may come out for a short but “sweet” performance of “Sweeterman” in which Drake has remixed. Ram also has a show at Adelaide Hall slated for August 1st, though his schedule seems to be clear for the 2nd and 3rd.
With remixes in mind, it seems as though Fetty Wap has a pretty good chance of showing up, his track “Trap Queen” would surely shut the Amphitheater down, and with Drake jumping on the remix of “My Way”, the chances seem pretty good. Additionally, Fetty Wap is scheduled for a performance on August 2nd, but then has no performances until the 6th. If you feel like Fetty is going to show up at OVO this year, cross your fingers.
A$AP Rocky & ILoveMakonnen
With A$AP Rocky and ILoveMakonnen playing basically right around the corner at the annual Veld Music Festival, they seem like a definite addition. Especially since ILoveMakonnen’s Veld set is a short 30 minute performance. His hit song “Tuesday” is sure to have the amp going up.
It’s been a great year for Skepta with smash hits like Shutdown and his debut show is happening guess when? That’s right on OVO Day 2 August 3rd at The Hoxton and it’s a “late show”. Drake collaborated with Skepta on songs like Ojuelegba and he borrowed a line from Skepta’s 2014 anthem “That’s Not Me” for his verse on Lil Wayne’s Used Sorry for the Wait 2 Mixtape. OVO Stage is going to be shutdown on Monday!
Kendrick Lamar is a name that’s been speculated at OVO Fest for a while. After some friendly beef on Control, Drake even gave him a nice shoutout at 2014’s OVO Fest. Performing at Osheaga up in Montreal, he won’t be too far away during this weekend. Who knows, maybe he’ll make a stopover to perform.
Drake brings out artists with the most buzz in the industry right now, one of which is Future. According to the FreeBandz website, Future is available for the OVO fest dates, and has many tracks featuring Drake as well as a strong relationship. He is also no stranger to touring with Drake. Having been on 2013’s Would You Like A Tour, as well as the Jungle Tour in June, we might expect to see him in the 6ix again. Having just released his #1 album, Dirty Sprite 2, there is a ton of new material for him to perform. Just as well, the sole feature on the album is Drake. The #FutureHive would definitely be in for a treat.
Since 2012, OVO Fest has proudly selected artists who are also strongly affiliated to perform. One person that comes to mind that checks off in all the requirements would have to be La Flame, Travis Scott. Having a productive and close relationship with not only PARTYNEXTDOOR but Drake as well, definitely helps his case. August 1st Travis is performing in Chicago but is off the 2nd.
This picture has been floating around twitter the past day. Considering that Virgil who is Kanye’s Creative director was in town Wednesday night for OVO Summit and Kanye was seen last weekend partying with Drake after Pan Am closing ceremonies I think it’s not too far off saying Kanye will be at this year’s OVO Fest.
Do you have any speculation about OVO guests which may or may not attend? Let us know in the comments!
We’ve also included a video from Manifesto’s 1mic series, they hit the streets to ask Torontonians who they’re expecting at OVO Fest this year.
