SonReal – “Whoa Nilly”

SonReal should not be slept on. If the video for “Whoa Nilly” isn’t further proof that the Vancouver-based artist is going to lengths few others will, I don’t know what is.

It’s early, but we’ve got a contender for Music Video of the Year in this one. Shot entirely in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, the video takes SonReal back to the Wild West, complete with standoffs, damsels in distress, and one final, epic bar brawl.

As usual, manager Byron Wilson makes a cameo — this time as the town’s sheriff. Apparently, SonReal’s mom is even in there somewhere.

Of course, none of this matters if the music isn’t any good — but Arthur McArthur does anthemic production like few can, and SonReal has really come into his own as a songwriter, especially when it comes to his ear for hooks.

Watch the video above.
