If you want to know the definition of being slept on, look no further than Adrian Duncan‘s new single “Chase A Check”, produced by Atlanta’s Blvck Divmonds. The Toronto rapper has come a long way since his debut 8-track mixtape TapeQuality, which droppedin November 2015.
Stylistically Duncan has continued to evolve, even if it’s only been a little over a year. The traditional, old school vibes found on songs like “Changes” provide a stark contrast to his new material, if anything giving an indication of self-awareness and a willingness to grow.
Duncan’s new single is arguably his best yet. The beat bounces and when the hook hits you it’s hard not to groove out. The video, directed by Tunnel Vision TO, offers us a glimpse into the Toronto native’s life. His level of confidence and clarity on display here is an encouraging sign for the up-and-comer, who I’m sure has a very big year ahead. Having promised his family success, he may get there faster than anticipated on his current trajectory.
