Bare Selection announces its first release with Toronto MC and producer, Tre Mission. The instrumental EP, Bare Selection 001, on the recently launched Canadian imprint, aims to bridge international music scenes.
Bare Selection is the brainchild of Tre’s longtime collaborator, DJ/engineer/producer Freeza Chin, along with his partner, DJ/ curator JAYEMKAYEM. The two have become staples in the Toronto club scene with strong ties to the UK. Freeza has almost 10 years experience as a sound engineer—first working at Toronto’s historic Phase One with artists including The Black Eyed Peas, Rich Homie Quan, The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes and more; and now as the owner/operator of his own studio, Genesis Sound, located in Toronto’s Junction neighbourhood. “Toronto is my home but I’ve always thought of London as a second home as well, despite only having travelled there a few times. Grime, garage, UK funky—it’s all been a huge part of my life, my sound and my identity as a creator and curator for over 15 years now. It’s really cool to be able to support the sounds I love from both Toronto and the UK in a new way by releasing music through Bare Selection,” states Freeza.
JAYEMKAYEM has a background in digital marketing, event production and promotion, and made the jump to working in music full-time three years ago. “We have different skill sets that compliment each other,” JAYEMKAYEM says of the partnership. “It just made sense to launch the label together. Freeza will be shaping the sound of the label overall, getting artists on board for releases and doing all the mixing and mastering. And I’ll be managing the other aspects of the label including marketing, branding, events, partnerships and more.”
Bare Selection 001 will release on November 12 on all digital streaming and purchasing platforms including Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, Beatport, Juno Download and more. Bare Selection will be hosting a launch party Saturday, November 10 at SoSo Food Club featuring music by Beat Sampras, Mike Roc, Freeza Chin and JAYEMKAYEM respectively.
