My special guest on The Come Up Show podcast is NBDY, an artist from New Jersey who comes from a family of musicians. We talked about what it’s like to be signed to the newly relaunched Arista Records, a label home to Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin.
We talked about the importance of knowing who you are as an artist and how that is going to inform how you present yourself.
The art represents your brand and who you are. A real artist makes the audience think. It goes way deeper than just what you see now, A real artist doesn’t tell their audience what to think. They let their audience think for themselves. Once I grasped that concept, it was really easy. I know what I like, I know what I don’t. I know how I want to be seen and how to interact and it worked out for meNBDY
Our conversation ranged from the meaning of his name NBDY (pronounced Nobody) “Growing up I got ignored a lot, can’t really remember a time when I didn’t feel invisible;
We talked about how he dealt with it to how music kept him alive. “It kept me out of the streets… I would’ve fallen victim to my demons and my city a long time ago if I never picked up a pen.”
All that and so much more in our conversation with NDBY on The Come Up Show Podcast. You can also listen on Spotify, SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts and wherever you can find podcasts by searching “The Come Up Show” or clicking the links below. All photography by Rhyan Correia.
