Coming in with a new visual for one of the standout tracks on his newly released album "Lofty Goals", is Locksmith featuring Chris Webby, on "Sure As Can Be". With some neck snapping production courtesy of Apathy of the Demi Godz, Lock and Webby aim to remind their listeners of what MTV used to represent, while laying bar after bar on this impressive track.
Lockmsith is a West Coast artist & producer from Richmond, California, who first found fame in the underground hip-hop scene via MTV’s MC Freestyle Championship in 2003. He has since toured with some of the rap game’s most respected artists such as: R.A. the Rugged Man, Vinne Paz of Jedi Mindtricks, Joe Budden, as well as Murs. Lock also used to take part in battle rap on GrindTimeNow and even tackled some of the scene’s biggest names currently such as Dizaster, and Daylyt, though has since retired from the battling.
Christian Webster, more commonly known as Chris Webby, is an american rapper from Norwalk, Connecticut, and has released an impressive amount of mixtapes and albums since he began his career. Beginning with his classic tapes such as "The White Noise LP", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Rapper", "Optimus Rhyme", and "The Underclassmen", to his more recent releases: "Best in the Burbs", "Webster's Laboratory", "Bars On Me", and "The Check Up", Webby truly has an impressive catalog. Not to mention his positively received albums "There Goes the Neighborhood", "Homegrown", and "Chemically Imbalanced." On top of all that Webby has worked with various artists such as Kid Ink, Wiz Khalifa, Big K.R.I.T., Method Man, Mac Miller, and Dizzy Wright, among others.
The track starts out with 2 men watching MTV with their grandson, when they decide to show the kid what MTV used to be like. The production starts off the track, courtesy of Apathy from the Demi Godz, when Webby jumps in and does the track good with his punchline focused flow. Before long Lock takes on the tune with a smooth and catchy hook, allowing him to destroy expectations with his conscious and real content. With visual direction by Jesse Ray Diamond & Brian Storm, the two really pulled out the big guns for this polished video.
I'm "Sure As Can Be" that Lock and Webby make a great team, and should definitely work together in the future, but what do you think? Would you want to hear this duo team up again? Features include Celph Titled, Xzibit, Esoteric, Vinnie Paz, Slaine, Ill Bill, Action Bronson, and production from Evidence, DJ Premier, Statik Selektah, & Da Beatminerz. Track 4 on the album, "Check to Check" is some of the realest shit in a rap song for a long time, plus it's got an Andre sample for the hook.
