We're less than a month away from Shad's Flying Colours release (due out October 15th through Black Box), and ahead of Manifesto weekend, Shad took the time to delve into his latest project. In the video, Shad sits down with OTA Live!'s Ty Harper in Dreamhouse Studio to discuss the much-anticipated album and what his aspirations were in putting it together. Says Shad, "I really think a lot about 'what am I putting out there for people?' I'm asking them to listen to my music. To me, that's a big ask, and I really want to feel every time like 'this is worthwhile,' and [Flying Colours is] worthwhile because I've stepped it up." With strong singles in "Stylin" and "Fam Jam (Fe Sum Immigrins)", I'll take his word for it. Watch the video below.
I can't believe we are only a couple of months away from Shad's long-awaited fourth album Flying Colours. "Fam Jam" is the second official video and song from the album which made its premiere on MuchMusic and online via Rap Genius where you can peep the lyrics and the meaning behind them. "Fam Jam" is dedicated to people who have emigrated to a new experience and have tried to find their identity in the new world. I can connect with this, as my family moved to London, Canada at the age of 10 and we had to learn English and start a whole new life. Even if you haven't experienced that transition I know you will connect with this video as it promotes on what makes Canada so beautiful. Take a look at the video below and let me know what you feel and if you're excited for Shad's new album. Make sure you don't miss Shad live in concert as he begins his Flying Colours Canadian Tour in September. Catch up on everything Shad by peeping the full tracklisting for the album, his first single and video with Saukrates "Stylin". Peep the full post to read the press release and to purchase "Fam Jam" on iTunes.
More Shad news! The London-raised emcee just leaked the track listing for his upcoming album Flying Colours today, and it looks like we'll get to hear some familiar (and new) voices: Lisa Lobsinger is back after her fantastic vocal performance on TSOL's "Rose Garden"; Toronto's Ian Kamau joins Shad once again, after appearing on TSOL ("Lucky 1's") and The Old Prince ("Outro"); k-os makes an appearance, after welcoming Shad on BLack on BLonde for "Spraying My Pen"; Lights is also featured here, after teaming up with Shad previously on Siberia's "Everybody Breaks A Glass". The rest of the cast is rounded out by Eternia - I'm looking forward to hearing this one after her killer "Final Offering" - fellow Vancouverite Ebrahim, and of course, Saukrates, whom we already knew about from "Stylin". One interesting immediate observation? All of the guest features are Canadian - although I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, it's always cool to note. On another note, you can also preorder Flying Colours now - the album is set for release on October 15th. Check out the track listing below. Track list: 1. Intro: Lost ft. Lisa Lobsinger, Kamau & k-os 2. Yall Know Me ft. Ebrahim 3. Fam Jam (Fe Sum Immigrins) 4. He Say She Say 5. Dreams 6. Grace (Interlude) 7. Stylin ft. Saukrates 8. Progress (Part 1 American Pie, Part 2 The Future Is Here) 9. Remember to Remember ft. Lights 10. Love Means ft. Eternia 11. Thank You 12. Epilogue: Long Jawn
Fresh off a string of sold out dates with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Shad announces his own headlining tour in Canada, with seventeen stops including his hometown of London, Ontario. On October 15, 2013 Shad will release the much anticipated follow up to his Juno Award-winning album TSOL, titled Flying Colours via Black Box. The new album is packed with charming, quick witted rhymes mixed with soulful hooks, and is self-described as "an album about everything, as per my custom, but most of all, I wanted to explore success and failure." Thus, honest rhymes about life and social issues are entwined with clever pop culture references; a sense of gratitude and pride takes centre stage.
