This Behind the Beat concept by The Drum Broker is pretty cool. Producer extraordinaire Jake One breaks down how he put together the beat for Chance the Rapper's "Acid Rain," one of the best beats off Acid Rap. For those unfamiliar with Jake One, he's worked with a veritable who's who in hip-hop (Snoop Dogg, G-Unit, T.I., De La Soul, Freeway), including many of Rhymersayers' best emcees (Brother Ali - with whom he made the incredible Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color, Slug, and Evidence). If you were a fan of Acid Rap and like creation process of songs, you'll enjoy this. Watch below.
It may be summer but on the heels of their successful respective solo albums, J. Cole has collaborated with Wale as The Born Sinner and The Gifted drop the Jake One produced "Winter Schemes." This isn't the first time we've witnessed the two artists work together; crafting popular songs such as "Beautiful Bliss" and "Bad Girls Club" in the past. Brother Ali recently dropped "Mourning in America", the title track off his upcoming album Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color. The track is produced by Jake One, as is the rest of Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color. "Mourning in America" goes hard, but I have to say I'm definitely feeling "Stop The Press" more. The album, originally slated to be released on August 21st, will instead be released on September 18th. Stream "Mourning in America" below, and let us know what you think in the comments section.
Rhymesayers emcee Brother Ali has announced the upcoming August 21st release of his Mourning In America And Dreaming In Color album, and today we get a look at the tracklist. For the album, Brother Ali enlists Jake One behind the boards for the entirety, and brings along Cornel West ("Letter To My Countrymen"), Bun B ("Need a Knot"), and Amir Sulaiman ("Gather Round") as guest features. After getting a taste for Ali and Jake One's chemistry on "Writer's Block" and "Stop The Press", this is one album I'm definitely looking forward to. “This is not just a new album, but a new chapter. There’s a kind of democratic reawakening in people at this point in time. I was really looking to take these topics and really hit them hard. To try to open ears and hearts and invite people to take some action and feel empowered. To be engaged and take some agency and responsibility for what’s going on in the world.” - Brother Ali1. Rhymesayers just dropped the visuals for Brother Ali's "Not A Day Goes By", a brand new track produced by Jake One. This has definitely got me excited for his upcoming album, Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color, which he recently talked about with HipHopDX. Brother Ali is about to head to Europe to tour with Grieves and Budo throughout the month of May before returning to Minneapolis to host Rhymesayers' 5th annual Soundset Festival.
