You knew it was only going to be a matter of time before this happened. Hip-hop's (and really music as a whole's) most eccentric interviewer meets its fastest-rising star: Nardwuar vs. Chance The Rapper. The Human Serviette caught up with the Acid Rap rhymer while he was on his Social Experiment Tour in Vancouver, BC and quizzed him about Crucial Conflict and Chicago hip-hop pioneers, Jamiroquai and acid jazz, and almost throwing up on Kendrick Lamar. It wasn't my favourite Nardwuar interview but just like pizza, even when it isn't the best, it's still pretty good. Watch below.
It's a pairing of two of Vancouver's music legends; Nardwuar interviews Madchild - and as is always the case with Nardwuar's interviews, it's fantastic. The two discuss a ton of pioneer Vancouver hip-hop groups, and Madchild has some excellent stories to tell from his lengthy career. Teasers: Which iconic New York City hip-hop group deejay shares a crew affiliation with Madchild? What connection does Madchild have with singer Beck? What role did Doug E. Fresh have in Madchild's hip-hop career? You'll have to watch to find out. Check it out below.
After the release of his highly anticipated mixtape Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever; Gaithersburg, Maryland artist Logic headed out on a tour across North America, stopping in Vancouver to perform at Fortune Sound Club where Nardwuar caught up with him for a classic interview to be remembered. Talking about everything from Wu-Tang, previous jobs, the Sinatra family, DJ Boss Player, Freestyle: The Art of the Rhyme, John Coltrane, Warpaint, opening up for Pitbull, Datpiff being mad at him, working with No I.D and more. The whole time Logic is lit up with excitement and as always Nardwuar the Human Serviette pulls a few surprises out which all makes for a great interview.
Every time I think I'm improving as an interviewer, I'll watch a Nardwuar interview and realize how much farther there is to go. As far as I'm concerned, he's the best music interviewer today. The Human Serviette caught up with Questlove for a thoroughly entertaining 46-minute interview, in which they discuss how The Cosby Show played a role in Questlove becoming a producer, the graffiti culture in Philadelphia, and as usual, the significance of a bunch of different records. Watch the interview below.
As you should all know by now, Nardwuar was at SXSW this year. The Human Serviette interviewed a whole bunch of artists, including Pharrell Williams. In their interview, Nardwuar and Pharrell discuss weed brownies, meeting Teddy Riley, and more. Check out the video below.
