Vancouver emcee KAI Sky Walker has just released his highly anticipated mixtape,
New Mind | Old Soul. Personally, I’ve been anxiously waiting for this mixtape to drop-Ever since I first heard the lead single
“Dead Saint’s." This project has been broken into several unique chapters, each one representing a different type of production and sound.
Chapter I, dubbed "Indie Bass", consists of indie vocal samples over heavy bass and 808s, while Chapter II contains much smoother, more melodic production and vocals. This sound is labeled as "Black Alternative" – a cross between alternative rock & hip hop music. The third chapter, defined as "Trill Trap Trunk", drifts away from the more serious tone of the first two sections, providing listeners with simplified lyrics and heavy production to prepare them for a night of fun and partying. The fourth chapter is titled "Rap Reborn." Here Sky Walker rap over 90's hip hop inspired production. Resurrecting samples and flows from legends such as The Notorious B.I.G., 2 Pac and Jay Z.
Executive produced by KAi Sky Walker himself, Chapter IV proves to be his best body of work to date. The project features additional production from Stevie Ross, Astor, Willie Sacks, IVN TWNSND & D-Rec as well as guest appearances from Rich Kidd, Moka Only, Soultree & Noble
