Stones Throw emcee/producer Jonwayne recently released this gem, "Notes To Myself", over some throwback production by the late J Dilla. The track comes off his upcoming mixtape,
Marion Morrison. He's also got a full-length release on the way,
Rap Album One, scheduled for late summer/fall. Since this is the first time we've posted about Jonwayne on The Come Up Show, allow me to provide a (brief) background on him:
Growing up in La Habra, California, he got into spoken word in high school after quitting the football team. By the age of 17, he started rapping and eventually became a part of the Low End Theory scene, befriending the likes of Dibia$e and Kutmah. Later, when Kutmah faced deportation, Jonwayne was asked to host a benefit concert to raise funds for his legal fees and awareness about the situation. He ended up hosting and performing on the same bill as a bunch of Stones Throw artists, including its founder, Peanut Butter Wolf. They met at the show, and he eventually signed with Stones Throw. The rest is history.
So now that you're acquainted, check out "Notes To Myself" below and look for more of Jonwayne in the future.
