The brand new EP by The Extremities, Instruments featuring Ghettosocks, is now available for download and streaming! As production albums go, The Extremities have pulled out all the stops on their latest release, Instruments, a title that sees the duo piloting the studio with an eclectic range of tools and sounds. In addition to MPC's and 1200's, keys, synth and horn arrangements, Fresh Kils & Uncle Fester are joined by Droppin' Science label mate, Ghettosocks, as the project's officially featured emcee, for a tour de force. With appearances by Percee P, Reks, Relic, Megaran and more making for some incredible hip hop, The Extremities craft an EP with character and depth, offering soulful instrumental masterpieces as well, a blend that has garnered them accolades since day one.
This song really tells it how it is. Off J. Carr and O'dell's project Godspeed, this track, in the most brutally honest and raw way, talks about J.Carr's struggles to get to where he is now: "From this day forth/I'm though with hopping over fences/From this day forth/ I'm only hopping in to Benz's/From this day forth/Never stopping is the mission/From this day forth/There's no limits". J.Carr talks about his big dreams, living in poverty, refusing to adhere to mainstream music requirements, and racism. My favourite line hands down: "We work and never idle/Beat the same drum/When your fridge get full don't forget where you came from". So simple yet it's one of the wisest things I've heard in awhile. I applaud J.Carr's decision to reveal his personal struggles; he captures them well. In doing so, he also makes himself relatable, giving listeners something to wholly identify with. Take a listen below and let me know if you agree.
The homie Koncept just dropped some free music for your listening pleasure. Produced by fellow Brown Bag AllStar DeeJay Element and featuring Reks, "Give It Up" is the first track off Koncept's upcoming album, Malt Disney. Stream and download "Give It Up" below. Reks just released the visuals to "La Luna", off his recent album REBELutionary. On "La Luna", Reks is joined by Venessa Renee on the chorus, as well as two of my favourite New York emcees, Sene and Koncept, on guest verses. Ft. Lauderdale producer Numonics handles the beat on this one - as he does for the entirety of REBELutionary - and provides a smooth, piano-laced composition. Check out the visuals to "La Luna" below.
The introductory visuals for Reks' upcoming album, REBELutionary, just dropped yesterday. All tracks on the Lawrence, Massachusetts emcee's upcoming album are produced by Numonics. Check out the video and the first single, "Shotgun", below. "Shotgun" features Michigan emcee Jon Connor, and Atlanta's Venessa Renee on the hook. Also included below is the full album track listing.
