Remember
Akon's 2009 hit "Right Now (Na Na Na)"? It's hard to believe it's been 6 years since this track was released, but here we are in 2015 bringing it up again, why you ask? Well because New York City based producer
Figgy just released a remix of it, and it's not one you want to miss. Figgy works to combine his favorite elements from house, R&B, and disco while bringing the soul to the dance floor. With countless original productions and remixes for him to call his own, as well as having released three EP's, Figgy is no stranger to the industry. Boasting support from
Earmilk, Gotta Dance Dirty, &
The Fader among others, Figgy has also had his tracks make it into top lists such as
Beatport's Top 10 House Charts.
Right off the bat, you'll notice that Figgy's version is much slower than Akon's original. Seeing how the original is a quicker club themed song, Figgy took an interesting direction with this remix, and it paid off. Utilizing a few prominent parts from the original production allows Figgy to make strong changes to the vocals, and the rest of the production without losing the connection to the original. The slower vocals do a great job at making the lyrics more meaningful and heartfelt, which are actually quite emotionally charged when you sit back and really take them in. Figgy emphasized this in his remix, and it transforms the track into an ex anthem, one that could make even the best of us crack open a beer. The track fades out with Akon stating "I miss you much" a couple times in a row, a perfect fitting for this memory inducing remix.
Figgy has been tackling a fair amount of popular hip-hop songs lately, dropping a remix of
Nicki Minaj's "
Truffle Butter"
featuring
Drake just this past month. Figgy doesn't currently have any tour dates for Toronto, but I say we get him here as soon as possible. What do you think of his remix? Think it's better than the original? Let us know in the comments.
