ELMNT recently released the mellow, jazzy, Jay.El-produced "UNI" featuring fellow Toronto artists Berg Beaugé and Rockley. Since Beaugé and Rockley may be new names to you - as they were to me - here's a little bit about both of them. Beaugé (formerly Iceberg Slim), who hails from East York, is part of the Mad Kids Records family alongside ELMNT. Rockley, meanwhile, is another Mad Kids member who hails from the Bahamas. If you're a fan of ELMNT, there's plenty to look forward to in 2014 as his long-anticipated Stara-Nova project is set for release. To tide you over until then, take a listen to a couple of his previous offerings, "RI$K$" and "Body Moving." Stream and download "UNI" below.
As promised following the Toronto Raptor's win the other night, ELMNT releases a new single off his upcoming album Stara-Nova. This one goes deep and examines the respect ELMNT has for Nikola Tesla, an undeniably innovative genius over a crafty composition produced by Cam. So while we are all patiently waiting for Stara-Nova to drop, take this one in and let me know what you think.
With Stara-Nova approaching it's release, the wait has been filled with a wave of different tracks that hold us over until the day like the free EP Silver Magic Ships and visuals for "Body Moving". Back with another, Toronto lyricist ELMNT drops a self produced track titled "Hello Jesus (America)" which contains a sample from "Jesus Children of America" by Shirley Caesar. The track was brought about in a neighborhood Starbucks and recorded with the internal mic built into Mac laptops. The wordplay ELMNT delivers on this one goes to show that he is definitely someone you don't want to sleep on. Take in this banger after some lyrics from the track and be on the lookout for Stara-Nova to drop in the near future.
"Shedding a fear, watching this system crumble like this God rolled up Pays to be the sideline story, cause If I had my glory man we'd all fold up Spilling my guts to let it all fall into this suitcase Swore to be the new Mase or be fly trying 3rd eye bird eye serb guy high in the nebula just word bed stein love still in me, life's glove still hit me still felt pity, grew a little faster, hussein in me Ryan told me to stop lying man true saying bit me felt obligated, no white collar had to make it no white dollar in my pocket"
Lets go back to some good old boom bap for a minute. Toronto lyricist ELMNT just dropped a video from a track that isn't featured on his latest project that's holding us over until Stara-Nova hits the net Silver Magic Ships, where he absolutely annihilates a classic J Dilla instrumental with some crazy wordplay. This is one you want to hit repeat on once or twice. The track was originally featured on Fresco P's PanDilla mixtape hosted by Toronto's own DJ Law that featured a bunch of remixes over J Dilla instrumentals. Check the SoTeeOh directed music video underneath. Do you think he did it justice?
As we all await Stara-Nova to be released on July 10th, Toronto emcee ELMNT drops a six song cut off it to hold fans over until that day. Featuring production from Ski Beatz, TF House, Illmind, Lakim, Ikaz, Mr.Carmack; Silver Magic Ships (Ships-tape to Stara-Nova) is a collection of tracks you can hit play on and listen straight through until the end, hypnotized by the inspiring melodies and thoughtful wordplay. I'm certainly anxious to hear Stara-Nova after hearing this teaser. Continue reading to check out the album artwork, stream all six songs and read ELMNT's thoughts on the project.
