In the most recent promotional video for Magna Carta Holy Grail, Jay-Z shares his vision for his newest album. It appears he wants to re-write the rules of the game keeping the latest trends in technology in mind and reflects on the power of the internet. By teaming up with Samsung, Hov has made this album profitable even before its release. Has Jay-Z made the transition from King of Rap to King of Marketing? Share your thoughts with us below.
I can't explain this feeling. I actually can't. It's like Christmas in July or something. Not only do we get Yeezus and Born Sinner this week, but Jay-Z just announced his new album that will be released on July 4th. The best part is, the first million Samsung Galaxy fans get the album before anyone else. Watching this in-studio session is like watching Kobe, Jordan, LeBron, Derrick Rose and Larry Bird all in the same room. Legendary. Check out the commercial that was aired during the NBA Finals, which feature Timbaland, Rick Rubin, Pharrell, Swizz Beatz and Jay-Z himself. This summer is going down in history for sure.
Swizz gets some assistance for his first single "Street Knock" which will be featured on his upcoming mixtape Limitless. I don't know how I feel about Swizz on this track, then again I've never really been much of a Swizz Beatz fan, but when you throw in a verse from Rocky and a crazy beat from araabMUZIK, I'm able to look past Swizz' mediocrity. No set date yet for Limitless, but let's hope to see more collaborations like this on the final project. Download: Swizz Beatz ft. A$AP Rocky - "Street Knock" (Prod. araabMUZIK)
Happy New Year and stay drunk but definite safe out there tonight. I just ordered my usual Strongbow followed by some Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum. Ya I'll probably be on auto-pilot later on. This morning via his Twitter account, Kanye West announced the commencement of producer extraordinaire Swizz Beatz's Monster Mondays, a weekly free mp3 series likely inspired by the success of Kanye's own G.O.O.D fridays. "DJ Play the Beat" (which, contra title, keeps the beat stifled) is the first track in the Monster Mondays installment.
Beatz has contributed regularly to Kanye's G.O.O.D series, including the most recent track, "Don't Look Down."
