Fresh off "Spring Cleaning", Sikai's lead single off his forthcoming project, we receive on more visual while we wait. This time for "Theatrics". Produced by Talen Ted, who also handled a few joints off Painkilling: Summertime Sick. Check out this Scott B. Foley directed video below and download the mixtape, it's summertime.
This is an absolutely beautiful remix from Talen Ted, who, alongside WriteGroove, rhyme over Blood Orange's track "Chosen". The original version is already amazing, magical and serene, but adding a layer of rap makes this track sound like a gorgeous medley of unorthodox sounds. The rhymes are smooth and calming; what I love about the rap verses is that they don't interrupt or overpower the instrumentals. Talen Ted and WriteGroove's remix is about a liking a girl but at the same time, her attitude and behaviour make it hard to feel strongly about her: "Even though you've got class and a bit of a**/Your attitude can be bitter and I wanna pass". The wordplay throughout their verses is pieced together perfectly and poetically. This track is reminiscent of an 80s or early 90s pop song combined with today's Indie music. There's also an awesome saxophone playing throughout the track that really makes me feel nostalgic.
I have to give a shout-out to Christel Rochelle from my hometown of Scarborough for this track. "iFeel" is about being stuck in a funk, about feeling hopeless and trapped with nobody who can help or understand. This is Christel's first single, and it's a beautiful blend of R&B, Neo-Soul, pseudo-Pop and Hip-Hop- let's call it alternative Hip-Hop, shall we? The track really draws you in; it's not cluttered with loud instrumentals, production, or distractions, allowing you focus on Christel's amazing voice and lyrics that relate to the experiences of helplessness and loneliness that everyone goes through. "iFeel" is a very ethereal, alienating and at times, dark experience that gives this track that much more meaning, considering the content. I'm loving the surprise ending where the track takes an unexpected turn (but I'll let you listen to it instead of spoiling it for you). Experience it below and tell me what you think.
If you have been following Sikai, you probably have taken in Painkilling: Summertime Sick by now, which is insane! If you haven't listened to it yet, I recommend you do. Back with another track that was, in his words "left on the cutting room floor in the creation of his recent project". Teaming up with frequent collaborator Talen Ted, Sikai drops "I'll Wait" (a song left off the mixtape) which lets us know that he will be here until the end, no matter the life situations that get in his way. Take in this smooth banger below and let me know what you think of Sikai, I think this dude is going to travel to places far and beyond and take his music to the top.
