[Podcast] TassNata talks working with Danny Brown, stealing first Rap tape and musical influence by his father
“My Dad used to take an hour sometimes just to play one song since he’d pause it so many times to explain what it meant, I was like 6 haha from that collection some of the biggest influences came from artists such as Bob Marley, The doors, Nina Simone, & bluesmen like BB King, and John Lee Hooker." TassNata. His father only age 21 when TassNata (Justin Nerling) was born, his pops was an avid music collector and audio engineer turned carpenter to better support the family. TassNata first project Between Planets released in 2011, garnered attention internationally and featured singles with elZHi of Slum Village, Black Milk, DL Incognito, and SonReal. Since then, Tass has released two mixtape projects which brings us to his newest EP Before Mourning which features singles with friends such as Danny Brown, Andreena Mill, SonReal, Rich Kidd, & JD Era. We caught with TassNata to discuss what the significance the title Before Mourning means, how he connected with Danny Brown, how he treats everyday like its his last and what his introduction to Hip-Hop was and much more. Check out the excerpts of the interview after the jump and let me know what your first Hip Hop memory is.
Not too long ago we premiered the first tune off Before Mourning, an album TassNata is getting set to release - “For The Summer”, a laid back chill tune that TassNata put together with Junia-T and Iman Omari while in LA on a trip. Mob Marley Films spent the day with them while they went through Fairfax, strolled downtown, hit up the Staple Centre; ending the day with some drinks and a bonfire on the beach with good company. The visuals provided bring you along that trip with them in LA for the day. We are proud to premiere “For The Summer” and you can check out the interview we did with TassNata to learn all about his trip to LA this summer and what went down as well as get some more info on his upcoming album!
I mentioned the other day when TassNata dropped "Walking Away" that he had a new joint coming this week. That time has come. Before Mourning, an album TassNata has been secretly working on for the past while is near completion. Personally, I can be more excited. Which is why I'm happy to premiere this new tune and the first single off Before Mourning - "For The Summer" featuring Junia-T & Iman Omari. Produced by Snazz, this ode to summertime is one to cap off what was an amazing summer. For myself, TassNata, Junia-T, Iman Omari and without a doubt all of you! Though this isn't your ordinary summer tune. This is a crack the bottle, vibe out kind of tune. "Summer nights I like a fire with the music loud. Rapping, I amuse the crowd, what happens as I move around". This one is for the summer! We'll probably party til the suns up! As the warm weather fades, this couldn't be a more perfect joint to capture those last moments. Don't take it all from me though, TassNata spoke on what his summer was like in LA with Junia-T, gave us an exclusive behind the scenes story from the video shoot for "For The Summer" and more! *There's also some exclusive pictures from their time over there you can peep!* Take a listen after the jump!
