Here is an inspiring one to close off your night. Not to long ago Naturally Born Strangers was released in collaboration with Legends League, Rich Kidd, Adam Bomb and Tona - A Toronto based clothing company and 3 incredibly talented artists. Just today coming out with their first visual for the project for one of the most visual songs off it, "Tie Breaker". Telling the story of a woman who is pushing toward a College scholarship through basketball, motivated by her nephew who isn't doing too well, than something tragic happens following a series of events. This is one of my many favorite songs off Naturally Born Strangers - and in my opinion it is one of the top mixtapes to come out this year. The video for "Tie Breaker" directed by James McGurk for Unknown Collective paints the picture written perfectly, making it feel like a motion picture. Take in Naturally Born Strangers as a whole after the visuals for "Tie Breaker" - trust me you will regret it if not and let me know your thoughts on the song - we seldom get gems like this one. "Ayo there must be a reason why it never ends even/ the bills come faster than the checks when you need them/ daylight always lasts less than the evening/ the game's sudden death for the rest of the season/ the Tie Breaker" We recently spoke to Rich Kidd about the project and more which you can check out here also.
Late Saturday night, one project I've been patiently waiting for finally dropped and the bar I had already set for it hearing the first few tracks was surpassed completely. First hearing about it in St. Catharines at The Cookout talking to Rich Kidd, the first glimpse we got of it was on We On Some Rich Kid Shit Vol. 7: The People's Champ, track 18 "The Strangers". Fast forward a month or so we started hearing tracks like "A Gun And A Pack Of Sandwiches", "Tie Breaker" and "Jameson Ave" as the day drew closer to its release. Working together, TheLegendsLeague, a clothing brand founded in Toronto hooked up with Rich Kidd, Adam Bomb and Tona to present Naturally Born Strangers, a project in which the three emcees compose some of the best music I've heard this year. Hit the link below for more information on the project, TheLegendsLeague promotional video, the stream/ download of Naturally Born Strangers and artwork.
When I heard this one this morning I was honestly lost for words, three prodigious emcees together going in on a track one after another what else could you ask for? With Rich Kidd on the production flipping the classic Radiohead track "Talk Show Host", him along side Adam Bomb and Tona all go in on some realness in the first release of their project The Legends League Presents: Naturally Born Strangers. I remember Rich Kidd telling me about this project at The Cookout a while back and I've been waiting on it ever since. I'm not sure about everyone else, but when I hear any song from these three I get excited and with them all together it makes it a timeless track for me. Take in "A Gun And A Pack Of Sandwiches" and let me know what you think after a quote from Mass Appeal speaking on the project a little more.
"Coming from the The Great White North by way of Toronto, the highly popular Legends League clothing company presents a brand new project of the auditory kind. Naturally Born Strangers is the musical equivalent to the brand, consisting of MCs Rich Kidd, Tona & Adam Bomb under the creative direction of LL’s commander in chief Bryan Espiritu. Where does the idea of Naturally Born Strangers stem from? Espiritu puts it best, "It was a proclamation of pride in the power of being disliked, unwanted, weird or foreign to the norm. But the embracing of that understanding made me who I am and makes way for new communities of outcasts; the antithesis to the neighborhood and the cynics of its circles.”
