California emcees Murs and Fashawn are set to release their collaborative album,
This Generation, on September 25th through Duck Down. The title
This Generation represents “an amalgamation of all the different styles and eras,” says Murs. The two feel that it’s their job as “praised, skilled wordsmiths” to document the ever-changing times we live in. The duo is jointly composed of youth and experience, and Fashawn felt that they could “add two separate accounts and bridge the gap.”
The album will be produced entirely by the duo Beatnick and K-Salaam. Fashawn comments, “They bring a brand new sound. We couldn’t picture any other producers. They could do an instrumental solo as a third verse and you wouldn’t be mad.” The producers chose to forgo the traditional sampling route in favor of original compositions. The production contains an array of sounds, blending the smooth, laidback vibes of 90s west coast g-funk with the aggressiveness of overdrive guitars and other exotic instruments.

This one's a must-watch. Murs and Fashawn recently stopped by the Standing Room Only studio in Minneapolis to perform "The Other Side" with the studio's house band, and the result is a really fresh, laid-back performance. The track comes off Murs and Fashawn's latest album, This Generation. Fashawn sounds as inspired as ever on this one; his verse is reminiscent of his Boy Meets World days. This marks the first instalment of Standing Room Only, and I have to say, I'm looking forward to seeing what they do next. Watch the video below; shouts to Potholes for the premiere.
