Update: We've added additional photos of the night that you can check out at the slideshow below or you can head straight to our flickr album. Photos by Eddy Rissling for The Come Up Show. Wednesday, May 7, at The Opera House in Toronto was a night a part of Canadian Music Week, with the main headliner being Houston rapper, Travi$ Scott. The fans were lined up before the doors opened at 8; there was music playing, and the line was patiently waiting. When the doors finally opened and everyone was getting settled inside, fans couldn’t help notice the house music that was playing. It was a mix of every genre but hip hop and definitely did not match the vibe of the night. Fans were left standing and conversing before the show got started around 9pm. In the hip-hop world mixtapes play a huge part, seeing as how fans get most of their music through downloading in this day and age. When an artist releases a mixtape, it could be because they want to promote an album, it could be because they want to get their name out to the hip hop community, or it could simply be because a certain artist hasn't released anything in a while and mixtapes will help to satisfy fans. Whatever the reasoning, mixtapes are vital when in comes to hip-hop, because on mixtapes there are no limitations from the artist's label. Musicians are free to say whatever they want on a mixtape and that can either be a fantastic thing, or the worst possible thing imaginable depending on how an artist pulls it off. Here at The Come Up Show, our staff went through all of our favourite mixtapes of 2013 in order to find the best of the best. The following artists are the ones who made the cut. Without further ado, here are The Come Up Show's top mixtapes/free releases of 2013. Read the full list after the jump.

I don't know all that much about this Houston native, but his Owl Pharoah EP is said to be coming soon and after hearing a few tracks, I'm excited. Travi$' production and style reminds me of Kanye and his laid-back flow is reminiscent of old Cudi. I see a lot of potential in Travi$ Scott and the rumours of a potential G.O.O.D music signing would not come as a surprise. Get a feel for his music (production and direction) with his visuals to "Lights (Love Sick)" and then take a listen to the track "16 CHAPELS" streamed below. Remember to check back for that Owl Pharoah EP.
